She used double cotton. But she had nothing to stuff it with. She went into her father’s bedroom. There she found some sheets of paper. She tore them up. She filled the pin-cushion with them.
The sheets of paper were very important for the father. He had written an important speech on them. But now it was lost. He became very angry with Kezia. He beat her with a stick. Kezia did not know that the papers were so important. She tore them up in ignorance.

Answer:
My life has been totally different from that of Kezia. I am the only child of my parents. But I found the behaviour of my parents very affectionate. I used to play with my father in the lawn of my house. I used to go out for a walk and even upto the age of eight years I used to sleep with my father. I found both my parents very loving.
But now as ¡ grew older 1 find some change in their behaviour. My father has become a little bit strict to me. 1f he finds any fault in my school work he rebukes me. He advises me time to time regarding my behaviour and circle of friendship. So sometime a misunderstanding also takes place between us.
But I think that this relationship should be based on trust and understanding. If the child has made some mistake and he/she admits it, the parents should not be too harsh. They should excuse their ward and tell him/her lovingly that the mistake has done so much harm to the family. If the parents give any type of corporal punishment to their ward, it will widen the difference between the parents and the child.

9. मैक्डोनॉल्ड साथ वाले मकान में रहते थे। उसके पाँच बच्चे थे। चारदीवारी के सुराख में से छोटी लड़की ने उन्हें शाम को रस्सी से खेलते देखा। पिता अपने बच्चे माओ को अपने कंधों पर उठाए तथा दो छोटी लड़कियों को कोट की जेबों के साथ लटकाए, फूलों की क्यारियों के चारों ओर दौड़ रहा था और हंस-हंसकर उन्हें हिलोरे दे रहा था। एक बार उसने लड़कों को उस पर पौधों को पानी देने वाली नली फेंकते देखा-वह उन्हें पकड़ने का प्रयत्न करने लगा और सारा समय हंसता रहा।
तब उसने निर्णय किया, पिता भी अलग-अलग प्रकार के होते हैं। एक दिन अचानक माँ बीमार हो गई और वह तथा दादी अस्पताल चले गए।
छोटी लड़की अपने घर में रसोइया एलिस के साथ अकेली रह गई। दिन के समय तो सब कुछ ठीक था, मगर जब एलिस उसे सुलाने लगी तो उसे अचानक डर लगने लगा।
10. उसने पूछा, “अगर मुझे बुरे सपने आए तो मैं क्या करूंगी। मुझे अक्सर बुरे सपने आते हैं और दादी मुझे अपने बिस्तर में ले जाती है। मैं अंधेरे में नहीं रह सकती। यह ‘फुसफुसाने वाला लगता है।……… एलिस ने उसकी जुराबें उतारते हुए कहा, “तुम केवल सो जाओ, बच्ची। “और तुम चिल्लाना मत और अपने बेचारे पिता को मत जगाना।

मगर वही पुराने बुरे सपने लोट आए-चाकू और रस्सी लिए हुए एक कसाई, जो अधिक-से-अधिक नजदीक आता जा रहा था और भयानक ढंग से मुस्कुरा रहा था, जबकि वह हिल भी नहीं सकती थी, वह केवल स्थिर खड़ी होकर चिल्ला सकती थी, “दादी माँ! दादी माँ! वह कांपती हुई जाग आई और उसने देखा हाथ में मोमबत्ती लिए हुए उसका पिता उसके पास खड़ा था।
उसने कहा, “क्या बात है?”
11. “ओह, एक कसाई-एक चाकू-मुझे दादी माँ चाहिए।” उसने मोमबत्ती बुझा दी, नीचे झुका और बच्ची को अपनी बांहों में उठाकर उसे गलियारे में से बड़े शयनकक्ष में ले आया। बिस्तर पर एक अखबार पड़ा था-उसके पढ़ने वाले लैंप के पास एक आधा पिया हुआ सिगार पड़ा था। उसने अखबार को एक तरफ किया, सिगार को आग में डाल दिया, तब उसने सावधानी से बच्ची को समेट लिया।
वह उसके साथ लेट गया। अभी भी वह आधी सोई थी और कसाई की मुस्कुराहट उसके आस-पास थी, ऐसा लगता था कि वह उसके नजदीक सिमट गई, अपना सिर उसकी बाजू के नीचे किया और उसकी कमीज को कसकर पकड़ लिया।
उस समय उसे अंधेरे की परवाह न थी, वह शांत लेटी रही। “अपने पांव मेरी टांगों से रगड़ कर गर्म कर लो, पिता ने कहा।
12. थका हुआ होने के कारण वह छोटी लड़की से पहले ही सो गया था। एक विचित्र भावना उसके हृदय में आई। बेचारे पिताजी, आखिर इतने बड़े तो नहीं हैं ………… और उनकी देखभाल करने के लिए कोई भी नहीं। वे दादी से अधिक ठोस थे परंतु वह मनोहर ठोसपन था। और प्रतिदिन उन्हें काम करना पड़ता था और वे इतना थक जाते थे कि वे श्रीमान मैक्डोनॉल्ड की भांति नहीं हो सकते थे………….उसने उनके सब सुंदर लेख फाड़ दिए थे………….वह अकस्मात हिली और उसने एक सांस भरी।
“क्या बात है?” उसने पूछा। “क्या कोई अन्य सपना आया है?” “ओह, छोटी लड़की ने कहा, “मेरा सिर आपके दिल पर है। मैं इसे घड़कता हुआ सुन सकती हूँ। प्रिय पिताजी, आपका दिल कितना बड़ा है।”
